I Dreamed of Africa

Great mountains of legends,

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world, and one of the most well-known iconic land marks of Africa, if not the World. Should one stand on the summit at just under 6000m, and rotate on your feet to all corners of the compass, it is an amazing fact that you are actually surrounded by plains of animals as far as the eye can see.
Just as dawn breaks, it is also one of the only places on Earth were you can see both the Southern Cross and the North Star at extreme opposite sides of the heavens. Kilimanjaro is situated a stone’s throw away from the equator, yet it has ancient and, sadly, retreating glaciers that cover its volcanically active summit..
East Africa is an all-in-one Safari destination. The plains of the Serengeti are aloud with the continuous stomping of millions of hoofs of zebra and Wildebeest as they cross these from one side of this great ecosystem to the other. Unique gazelle and other antelope such as the Gerenuk are found in sometimes semi-desert ecosystems. And a myriad of magenta wings open as the flamingoes take flight over the soda lakes in the Great African Rift Valley......

Roan Antelope (Hippotragus equinus)

One of the largest African antelopes, the roan antelope has a gray coat with black and white facial markings, very long, pointed ears that are tufted at tip, and long horns that are strongly curved backwards

Black Kite (Milvus migrans)over the Ngorongoro Crater

Black Kites will take small live prey as well as fish and carrion. They are attracted to fires and smoke where they seek escaping insect prey.

White Rhino

popular theory of the origins of the name "White Rhinoceros" is a mistranslation from Dutch to English. The English word "white" in English is said to have been derived by mistranslation of the Dutch word "wijd", which means "wide" in English. The word "wide" refers to the width of the Rhinoceros mouth.

Giraffe at sunset (Giraffa camelopardalis)

The giraffe is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest of all land-living animal species, and the largest ruminant. The giraffe's scientific name, which is similar to its antiquated English name of camelopard, refers to its irregular patches of color on a light background, which bear a token resemblance to a leopard's spots.

Lion (Panthera leo)

The lion is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera, and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight,[4] it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres or 19,341 ft (the Uhuru Peak). Mount Kilimanjaro is among the tallest freestanding mountains in the world, rising 4600 m (15,100 feet) from the base.

Red Hartebees (Alcelaphus caama)

The Red Hartebeest is a large, reddish-fawn antelope with sloping back and long narrow face. Both sexes have heavily ringed horns. Territorial bulls often present themselves on prominent mounds and mark their territories with dung piles. The Red Hartebeest is swift on foot and gregarious, occurring in herds of up to 30.

WildeBeest migration

The extraordinary annual Great Migration of wildebeest and other grazing herbivores across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is one of the greatest spectacles in the natural world. Over two million herbivores partake in this journey, with about 200 000 zebra and 500 000 Thomson's gazelle behind the main players... one-and-a-half million wildebeest
